What happens when router will not reset?
A DSL-G604T is proving my patience atm. With a direct connection to my laptop (RJ45), i cannot access anything, not even the configuration. After checking the DHCP and realising the laptop was not being assigned any type of reasonable IP, i switched to Static, and still had no luck. I tried to reset the router to default settings, but the router will not reset. I have tried all the various differnt methods on this forum with no avail. I cannot even ping the router. |

Unplug it and replug it? Perhaps the reset button is stuck or jammed? Interesting thing with this router is that it often decides it wants a power cycle after a reset request before it'll play again. I'm assuming you have the power light and a flashing status light? Also try each of the four LAN ports on the back in case the one you've plugged it into doesn't work. Wouldn't hurt to try another network cable as well. Of course, does your Ethernet connection on your laptop work? Is it switched on in its BIOS setup routine? ;) |
Have Unpluged and Repluged and performed many power cycles. Only the power light is on, and if an ethernet cable is plugged in it is stationary. All lan ports do the same thing, as well as differnt cables The Ehternet on the laptop is fine, as it is all set up to test routers at work ;-) THe main problem is the fact that DHCP seems to be disabled, and therefore the laptop cannont get a working IP from it. I have taken the router apart to check the reset button, and its fine. I even bypassed it and simply jumped the switch pins and that still did not reset the router!!! That or it has, but it is still broken from other causes! |

I had similar problems with my new DSL-G604T router. I was eventually contacted by D-link tech support who suggested the following which I did and it worked for me. Remove all cables from the router except for the power cable. Leave the power cable connected. Get into a position in which you can be holding the reset button and have your other hand free. Press and hold down the reset button. Hold this for 15 secs. Then remove the power from the router. When you remove the power continue holding down the reset button for another 30 secs. Plug the power back into the router - still holding down the reset button. Wait for another 45 secs and then let go of the reset button. Apparently - I'm told, the router may have gone into crash mode while completing the reset. Finally, wait for 10 secs and then remove the power again. Keep the router unplugged for 60 secs, then plug it back in again. Hopefully, you should now be able to connect to the configuration menu on the router. |
Well I searched and searched and searched and was about to go out and buy a new router, and I came across this thread and boy I was soooooo greatful because it actually worked. I had not used my router for a long time, previously I had been using it with my BT Broadband in my own house but I replaced it when I got a BT Home Hub. Before it was made redundant it was working fine, I had been playing with it since using it as a switch but the last time I used it it must have crashed and froze in a state of unusability. Anyway I had tried many times to reset it but it failed until I followed the instructions in this post and thankfully it worked...........Mr Jenks I thank you !!!!!!! |
Thanks a ton! Worked for me. Registered just to thank you. I have D-link DI-624. Thanks again NSJENKS |
